Tacoma woman receives Fulbright award
A student at Saint Martin’s University recently was named a recipient of a Fulbright U.S. Student Program English teaching assistant grant.
Chyteira Dues of Tacoma will teach at Juan de Castellanos University in Tunja, Boyocá, Colombia and will complete a social or community project while there for the 2016-17 academic year.
Grant recipients are selected based on academic and professional achievement, and their record of service and leadership in their fields.
Clover Park School District to hold budget hearing
A public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday (July 11) to share the proposed 2016-17 budget for the Clover Park School District.
The hearing will take place before the regular school board meeting in Room 4 of the Student Services Center, 10903 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood.

Bergeson named an interim dean at PLU
Pacific Lutheran University recently named Terry Bergeson as interim dean of the School of Education and Kinesiology.
She most recently was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Washington Tacoma and was the state superintendent of public instruction from 1997-2009.
State board of education seeks regional candidate
An election will be held in November to fill a position on the State Board of Education for the Western Region.
The position is a four-year term, beginning in January.
Candidates must live in the region, which includes Pierce, Thurston, King and other Western Washington counties.
They cannot be employed by a public or private school, college, university or other educational institution, educational service district or the state superintendent’s office.
Declaration of candidacy and optional biographical information forms must be filed by Sept. 30. Forms are available online at tinyurl.com/ny7w746.
