Broken gas line closes road on South Hill. Repairs could take hours

A road on Puyallup’s South Hill was closed Friday morning because of a broken gas line, according to a tweet by Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The gas line was damaged when it was hit by boring equipment used by a work crew, said Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman Janet Kim. The incident required closing 120th Street near its intersection with Meridian Avenue.

Twenty people were evacuated from from the area but have since been allowed to return, Kim said. Repairs “could take a couple hours,” according to the tweet.
