A semi truck hopped a curb and struck another semi, blocking Tacoma freeways for hours
A truck driver was injured Thursday when two tractor-trailers collided head-on at a Tacoma freeway interchange, blocking lanes and causing massive traffic backups.
Troopers said one semi was traveling north on Interstate 5 to Interstate 705 when it hopped the curb and crossed into incoming traffic on the ramp from state Route 7 to I-705.
A semi driving on the northbound Route 7 ramp then hit the other truck.
One of the drivers was trapped in his rig and suffered minor injuries, which took place about 9:25 a.m.
The northbound Route 7 extension to northbound Interstate 705 was completely blocked, as was the off-ramp to City Center.
Crews and tow trucks were able to remove most of the wreckage by noon. I-705 reopened just before 2 p.m. but the Route 7 exit to I-705 was closed for an additional stretch of time while crews repaired the barrier.
