Man arrested on suspicion of DUI vehicular homicide for fatal motorcycle crash in Milton

Washington State Patrol troopers arrested a 23-year-old man in Milton on Tuesday morning after he allegedly ran a red light turning onto state Route 161 and a motorcycle collided into his vehicle.

The motorcyclist, a 53-year-old Puyallup man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. Troopers said the man arrested was from Tacoma and was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

The crash occurred near 28th Avenue South, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Trooper Rick Johnson said it happened just after 5 a.m. The state route was initially fully blocked, then reduced to one lane while investigators and emergency responders were on the scene.

Medical aid crews, fire assistance, WSP and an incident response team went to the incident.

Johnson said the motorcyclist was southbound on state Route 161 when the driver of a blue vehicle ran the light from 28th Avenue South and failed to negotiate the turn to go south.

“The motorcycle had really nowhere to go, nothing to do and ended up striking the vehicle,” Johnson said.

All lanes of state Route 161 were reopened by about 9:10 a.m., according to WSDOT.
