Motorcyclist seriously injured in Tacoma traffic collision on Pacific Avenue

A 33-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car Wednesday afternoon in Tacoma near the city’s Eastside neighborhood, police said.

The incident led to Pacific Avenue being shut down between South 64th and 67th streets, according to a tweet from Tacoma Police Department. Spokesperson Wendy Haddow said the motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital with broken bones. She said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said Pacific Avenue should be reopened to traffic in that area by 4 p.m.

It occurred at about 2:15 p.m. at 65th Street South. Haddow said the motorcyclist was traveling south on Pacific in the lane closest to the curb when a driver turned right onto the road from 65th Street in front of him, and the motorcyclist struck the car.

“They stopped at the stop sign but made a right-hand turn because they didn’t see the motorcyclist, and the motorcyclist struck them,” Haddow said.

A collision investigation team was not called to the scene. Haddow said there were no signs of impairment in the driver of the car. She said the collision was determined to be an accident.
