I-5 ramps construction may impact your commute. Here’s when you can expect closures
Tacoma drivers might run into closures this month on the northbound and southbound Interstate 5 on- and off-ramps to South 56th Street due to construction.
The southbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound South 56th Street and northbound I-5 on-ramp from eastbound South 56th Street closure will begin 7 a.m. Wednesday and will reopen 9 p.m. Friday.
The northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound South 56th Street will be closed 7 a.m. Sept. 12 to 9 p.m. Sept. 14.
The City of Tacoma’s Public Works Engineering Division and Washington State Department of Transportation are constructing pedestrian curb ramps at the on- and off-ramps of northbound and southbound I-5 at South 56th Street.
Northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps from westbound South 56th Street will be closed 7 a.m. Sept. 15 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17.
Southbound I-5 on-ramp from westbound South 56th Street will be closed 7 a.m. Sept. 19 to 9 a.m. Sept. 21.
The construction is a part of the I-5 and South 56th Street Interchange ADA Compliance Project. The project will cost $631,000 and is funded through a state grant.
Repairs are weather-dependent and rescheduling might be required. Notice boards will be on location to notify drivers of the project and will reflect changes.
