Traffic collision with stolen car in South Tacoma shuts down road, seriously injures 2
A driver in a stolen car collided with another vehicle early Monday morning in South Tacoma, seriously injuring two people, according to police.
South Oakes Street was shut down from South 63rd Street to South 65th Street until about 7:55 a.m., according to a tweet from Tacoma Police Department. The collision was first reported just after 4 a.m.
Police said the driver of the stolen vehicle was going south on Oakes Street at high speed when it struck a car traveling east on South 64th Street. Police spokesperson Wendy Haddow said there were four or five people in the stolen car, and all but two who were injured fled.
A collision investigation team was called to the scene. Police said the two people who were seriously hurt were males, and one was 14 years old. They were transported to area hospitals. It’s unclear whether either was driving the stolen vehicle.
There was one man in the car that was struck. He suffered an injury that wasn’t life-threatening and was transported to a hospital.
