Rolled over trailer on SR-16 in Gig Harbor causes miles of traffic backups, WSDOT says

A trailer rolled over Wednesday morning on eastbound state Route 16 in Gig Harbor, forcing traffic to the shoulder and causing miles of backups, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The incident was reported at about 8:50 a.m. near Rosedale Street Northwest. About an hour later, traffic was backed up to 144th Street Northwest in Purdy, about five miles away. In a tweet, state Trooper Robert Reyer said he didn’t expect lanes to open until at least 11 a.m.

No injuries were reported. It’s unclear how it occurred.

A photo of the scene tweeted by Reyer appeared to show dirt spilled onto the roadway. WSDOT crews said a sweeper was on its way to clean the mess.
