A man has died after being hit by a car in the South Hill area.

A collision was reported on southbound state Route 161 near County Dump Road at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday. About 8:40 p.m., Washington State Patrol reported on X that the southbound lanes were blocked near 194th Street East. Trooper John Dattilo said on X that troopers were on the scene investigating a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.

Twenty minutes later, Dattilo reported that the pedestrian died.

According to the incident report, a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas was traveling south on Route 161 approaching 191st Street. A 57-year-old Puyallup man was walking south on the right shoulder near the fog line when he was struck. The car stopped on the right shoulder where he was hit. The road was closed for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The crash is under investigation.
