UPDATE: Man dies after being struck by car while walking along South Tacoma Way

A major crash investigation in Lakewood caused road closures Tuesday morning.

Northbound South Tacoma Way is closed between the STW Extension and state Route 512. People should plan alternative routes, Lakewood Police Department said on Facebook.

8 a.m. update: Lakewood police confirmed to the News Tribune that this is a fatal collision. More details will be provided later, they said.

2:05 p.m. update: Lakewood police report that a man in his 40’s died after being struck by a car about 6:30 a.m. The person driving the car stopped and called 911. The driver was not impaired, police said. Medics were dispatched, but the man died at the scene.

An investigation is underway.
