Pickup driver killed in head-on collision on state Route 7 near Spanaway on Thursday

A pickup driver has died after he attempted to pass traffic on state Route 7 and hit a sedan near Spanaway early Thursday morning.

The truck driver was headed north and coming down a hill when it attempted to pass a log truck and crashed into a sedan that was driving south at around 6:50 a.m.,Washington State trooper John Dattilo said.

The pickup driver died, and the sedan’s driver was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Dattilo said.

All lanes of traffic on state Route 7 near Weiler Road East were closed for the investigation. Drivers were asked to use alternate routes.
