UPDATE: Car crash that blocked lanes of southbound I-5 in Tacoma on Friday has cleared

Update, 9:13 a.m.: WSDOT reports the wreck is cleared. Traffic remains backed up to the Puyallup River bridge but is dissipating.

Original post: A collision on southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma is causing traffic delays Friday morning.

The state Department of Transportation reported on X that a crash occurred about 8:13 a.m. just after the flyover bridge at state Route 16.

The two left lanes are blocked and the right lane is partially blocked until further notice. Traffic is backing up beginning near the Puyallup River bridge, according to WSDOT’s traffic map.
