A pursuit of a speeding vehicle led to a multi-vehicle crash on I-5 in Lakewood on Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported at 7:17 a.m. on I-5 southbound at milepost 124.64 near Gravelly Lake Drive and Pacific Highway, according to Washington State Patrol.

A WSP trooper initiated the pursuit because a driver was driving 87 mph in a 60 mph speed zone. The driver was also driving recklessly and going in and out of traffic, WSP Trooper John Dattilo told The News Tribune.

Dattilo said the vehicle took the Gravelly Lake Drive southbound exit and ran a red light before crashing into two vehicles and a guard rail. Four people were taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries.

The on-ramp is closed and a detour is in place for those traveling in the area. The off-ramp has also reduced to one lane. Drivers are asked to used alternate routes.
