Vehicle hits hydrant, causing water main break at Puyallup intersection, officials say

A water main break has closed a road and intersection in Puyallup on Monday morning.

A vehicle hit a hydrant at Valley Avenue East and Milwaukee Avenue East, which caused the water main break, according to city public affairs officer Eric Johnson.

City and emergency crews have responded and are working to shut off the main. There is currently 10 inches of water on the road, Johnson said.

10:55 a.m. update: Crews are working on repairing the water main.

Valley Avenue is back open to vehicles. Milwaukee Avenue, north and south of the intersection, is down to one lane only, the city said on X.

12:15 p.m. update: Crews have repaired the first of two water main breaks. They are repairing the second main break, the city said.

Water customers in the area should see their service fully restored within the next hour or two.
