A fire at a lumber business in Tacoma has caused a roadway to close as firefighters work to clear the scene.

The fire started at about 1:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of Marine View Drive and involved a wood pellet making process, according to the Tacoma Fire Department on X.

“The fire appears to be isolated to a hopper and machine,” the post said.

The fire was contained to the area, and firefighters are working on any hot spots in the machinery. Marine View Drive near the scene of the fire remains closed.

4 p.m. update: One lane is open in both directions of Marine View Drive.
