Traffic through Tacoma on I-5 in shambles this afternoon

Traffic through Tacoma on Interstate 5 is moving slowly in both directions on Friday afternoon, according to the Washington Department of Transportation.

WSDOT’s real-time map showed southbound I-5 backed up all the way to state Route 18 in Federal Way.

A wreck on the freeway near East Bay Street in Tacoma was hampering northbound traffic at 3:45 p.m., the map showed, with traffic backed up to the state Route 16 interchange.

Interstate 705 was seeing backups in both directions after a wreck near I-705/SR 7 extension interchange at 3:51 p.m., WSDOT reported.
