Tacoma Narrows Bridge drivers: Expect lane closures Friday for WSDOT maintenance
The Tacoma Narrows Bridge is scheduled for annual maintenance on Friday, according to a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Drivers should plan for two overnight left lane closures approaching the eastbound state Route 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge on Friday, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closure will allow maintenance crews to clean accordion joints on the bridge span, according to the release.
April Leigh, a WSDOT spokesperson, said no significant delays are expected. Traffic is typically centered on the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge at the end of the workday as people make their return commute, she said.
People should be able to continue on their normally planned routes for the day, she added, noting that maintenance has been scheduled at night to minimize disruption.
The eastbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built in 2007.
