Vehicle collision on I-5 south in Tacoma causes traffic backups

A vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma was causing some traffic backups Friday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The incident was reported shortly after noon near Pacific Avenue. According to a WSDOT post on X, the right lane of the interstate was blocked.

Emergency services scanner traffic indicated it was a two-vehicle collision. It’s unclear if there were any injuries. WSDOT’s travel map showed southbound traffic was stop and go from Pacific Avenue to the Puyallup River.

The collision scene was cleared shortly before 1 p.m., WSDOT reported.
