Update: All lanes back open after highway was closed from DUI crash near Sumner
Final update: All traffic lanes have reopened.
8:40 a.m. update: One lane is open on westbound SR 410 south of Sumner, according to WSDOT in an update.
“Eastbound is still blocked. Tow truck is on scene and maintenance crews are fixing the barrier. Take alternate routes until further notice. This will be an extended closure,” the post said.
Original story: Traffic lanes between Bonney Lake and Sumner have shut down after a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries from a crash Friday morning.
A truck going westbound at state Route 410 near Ehli Hill lost control and struck a concrete barrier, which broke and was forced in traffic lanes eastbound. A motorcycle driving that direction hit the barrier, Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo wrote on X at 6:18 a.m.
The motorcyclist suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The truck driver is under arrest for driving under the influence and vehicular assault, Dattilo said.
Detectives are investigating. State Route 410 remains closed and westbound traffic is detouring through Myers Road. Drivers headed eastbound are diverted to 166th Avenue East/Sumner Lake Tapps Highway, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation Tacoma on X.
This will be an extended closure, and drivers should take alternate routes, according to the department.
