Update:

The collision on state Route 167 near 24th Street East involved two cars and occurred in the backup traffic from a four-car collision that happened further south, Washington State Patrol spokesperson Kameron Watts said.

The four-car collision occurred between mileposts 6 and 7 and has been cleared to the left and to the right of the road, allowing traffic through, he said.

No injuries have been reported, though aid has been called as a precaution, according to Watts.

Original post:

The left lane is blocked on southbound state Route 167 Wednesday evening following a collision near 24th Street East in the Edgewood area, the Washington State Department of Transportation posted on X.

The department’s real-time travel map shows that traffic is stop-and-go on the highway for about six miles, beginning just north of West Valley Highway East and extending to the interchange with state Route 18.

Cameras at milepost 8.03 on state Route 167, near where the backups begin, also suggest a second incident may be causing delays. Images from the real-time map show a vehicle parked partially off the highway and a fire engine nearby.

The News Tribune reached out to a Washington State Patrol spokesperson for more information about both incidents. Spokesperson Kameron Watts said he would call back with more information.

Efforts to reach the East Pierce Fire & Rescue duty chief via phone were also unsuccessful Wednesday evening.
