State Patrol was dispatched at around 5:35 a.m. to southbound Interstate 5 near East Bay Street and state Route 167 for the crash. Two of the right lanes and the off-ramp to Bay Street are closed, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
It was a single-car crash with the vehicle flipped to its side. A passenger from the vehicle was taken to a hospital in stable condition but with serious injuries, state trooper Kameron Watts wrote on X.
The driver was arrested and troopers have begun a DUI investigation.
“If you need to access SR-167 or Portland Avenue, you’ll need to turn around at the next exit after Bay Street and access it from northbound I-5,” Watts wrote.
9 a.m. update: The roadway has reopened at East Bay Street, according to WSDOT in an update.
Before the roadway reopened, Watts wrote on X that a more in-depth and thorough investigation had to take place because of the nature of the injuries from the crash. The investigation has since been completed.
