What the cluck? Hundreds of live chickens disrupt traffic on Pierce County road

Hundreds of live chickens that scattered across the northbound Interstate 5 highway near DuPont after a semi-truck overturned disrupted traffic early Friday morning.

Troopers were on scene for a semi-truck carrying chickens that overturned near Mounts Road. The three right lanes were initially blocked around 1:15 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

A cleanup began. WSDOT Tacoma wrote on X the scene cleared at 5:48 a.m.

The account then wrote at 7:48 a.m. the right lane is blocked for continued cleanup.

“Responsible party has numerous people working on this,” the post said.

Drivers are asked to delay travel if possible and expect delays.
