Collision blocking two lanes on Interstate 5 stretches traffic

Update, 5:26: All lanes on southbound Interstate 5 are now open, WSDOT shared on X. It will take time for traffic to clear, the post said.

Update, 4:52: Another collision on southbound Interstate 5 near Port of Tacoma Road is blocking the center lane, WSDOT shared on X.

The crash happened at mile point 136.09 at 4:34 p.m.

The earlier collision near the Puyallup River Bridge happened less than a mile away at mile point 135.54. It’s unclear at this time if the two collisions are related.

Original post: Two right lanes of southbound Interstate 5 are blocked in Tacoma after a Wednesday afternoon collision near the Puyallup River Bridge, the Washington Department of Transportation shared on X.

The crash took place at the north end of the bridge at 4:05 p.m.

Stop-and-go traffic is backed up from the bridge into Federal Way near South 312th Street, according to the WSDOT real-time map.
