Vehicle catches fire on I-5, blocks afternoon traffic

A car engulfed in flames temporarily blocked traffic on northbound Interstate 5 on Thursday afternoon, state trooper Kameron Watts posted on X.

One lane of northbound I-5 near the State Route 16 exit was blocked from 2:15 p.m to 3:07 p.m.

The sedan’s three occupants escaped without injuries, Watts said. Firefighters from the Tacoma Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
