A section of Proctor Street in the North End of Tacoma will close for four days as construction crews conduct essential road repairs, the City of Tacoma announced Thursday.

Between April 6 and 10, the city’s Public Works Department will close Proctor Street between North 21st Street and 6th Avenue, the press release said. Repairs will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day as weather permits.

This work is time-sensitive and will correct surface imperfections on the asphalt to prepare the roadway for a brand-new surface, the release said.

There will be limited local access and no through traffic permitted while the construction occurs. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative routes during the repairs.

This major maintenance project uses funds from the Tacoma Streets Initiative, a $325 million voter-approved funding source designed to address critical infrastructure needs, the release said. The 10-year levy officially expired December 31, 2025.

Those with questions about the construction can reach out to Street Maintenance Supervisor Sean Probst at sprobst@tacoma.gov or 253-591-5495.
