A sinkhole at an intersection next to Tacoma Community College is causing emergency repairs and temporary lane closures Wednesday, the City of Tacoma shared on X.

The city’s street operations team is at the intersection of South 19th Street and South Mildred Street to inspect underground infrastructure and determine the exact cause of the sinkhole, City of Tacoma spokesperson Maria Lee told The News Tribune.

A few lanes of traffic at the intersection will close for the next several days as the city investigates its cause and coordinates repairs, Lee said.

Drivers should anticipate minor delays, consider taking alternative routes and use caution when driving near the work zone.
