A two-car collision in Lakewood resulted in flames, a fuel spill and several injuries Friday afternoon, West Pierce Fire & Rescue told The News Tribune.

Authorities responded to a crash on the 3200 block of South 84th Street at 3:55 p.m., according to public information officer Nathan Johnson.

Six people were injured in the crash, and five of them were transported to the hospital, Johnson said.

Upon arrival both vehicles were on fire, which West Pierce crews extinguished by 4:20 p.m., Johnson said.

One of the cars crashed close to a building, causing fire damage to the surrounding area.

The collision also caused fuel to spill from one of the vehicles, which was contained by firefighters and reported to the Department of Ecology for clean-up.

The cause of the crash and extent of the injuries are unknown at this time.
