Expect delays during I-5 lane closures this weekend near Nisqually River Bridge
Daytime lane closures are coming to the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 as they approach the Nisqually River Bridge, the state Department of Transportation announced.
From 6 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, southbound I-5 will be reduced to two lanes, according to WSDOT.
The lanes are closing so that maintenance crews can clean the bridge.
“Crews use a specialized under bridge inspection truck to clean above and below the bridge deck. The work is performed during daylight hours for safety,” a news release reads.
Drivers can expect congestion approaching the work zone, especially during late morning hours, WSDOT officials say.
This work was originally scheduled in March, but was rescheduled due to spring storms.
Cleaning bridges improves the efficiency of the state’s bridge inspection program and helps prevent deterioration, according to WSDOT.
WSDOT asks that as drivers approach the work zone, they slow down, be kind, pay attention and stay calm.
