Drivers in the Spanaway area can expect overnight delays later this week.

According to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation, there will be single-lane, alternating traffic in the following areas from 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20 to 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 21:

  • State Route 507 at 208th Street South near Spanaway
  • SR 702 at Harts Lake Road South near McKenna

The release said those closures are part of a project that will build two, single-lane roundabouts on state Route 507 at 208th Street near Spanaway and state Route 702 at Harts Lake Road South near McKenna.

The project will cost $5.6 million, the release said.

Future Construction

Crews will build the roundabouts in stages during daylight hours, the release said.

“Major construction during daytime hours is scheduled to begin in June,” the release said. “Travelers can expect shifted lanes and temporary speed limit reductions of 25 mph through both work zones. Around-the-clock temporary traffic signals will direct one-lane alternating traffic during most stages of construction.”

One closure will be in place for “up to four months” at 208th Street between state Route 507 and 1st Avenue East, the release said. Drivers can use state Route 7 and state Route 507 to get to their destinations during that closure.

The release did not give exact dates for future construction, but did say crews will not work on Memorial Day weekend, which is May 23 to 25.

“More detailed information regarding closures and traffic changes will be made available as construction schedules are confirmed,” the release said.
