One dead, one with serious injuries after crash in Puyallup

Update: Chief Matt Black, spokesperson for Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, told The News Tribune one person died in the crash and one person has been transported to Tacoma General Hospital with serious injuries.

The woman who died was born in 1950, Black said, meaning she was 75 or 76 years old. The person who was transported to the hospital is a woman in her 20s.

The curve at Pioneer Way East and 33rd Street Southeast has been shut down until further notice, Black said.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, Black said.

Kevin Gill, spokesperson for the Puyallup Police Department, told The News Tribune the department is “conducting a serious injury collision investigation.”

“The roadway will be closed for some time,” Gill wrote in a message to The News Tribune. “I’d say avoid the area for now.”

Gill couldn’t give specifics on which areas are closed, since he was on the way to the scene. He said he would provide updates once he arrived and learned details from officers in the area.
