Lakewood man hospitalized after three-vehicle crash in Tacoma
A 34-year-old Lakewood man has been sent to a hospital with injuries after a three-vehicle crash in Tacoma on Friday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Washington State Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:35 p.m. when all three drivers were driving on southbound Interstate 5 at milepost 135, which sits above the Puyallup River and leads to Portland Avenue.
A 60-year-old Tacoma man driving a truck merged into a different lane, the release said, and hit the 34-year-old Lakewood man, who was also driving a truck. The Lakewood man spun, entered a different lane, and struck the third driver, a 40-year-old Kent man driving a car.
The Tacoma man came to rest in the sixth lane, while the Lakewood man stopped in the sixth lane and left shoulder and the Kent man stopped in the fifth and sixth lanes.
The Lakewood man was taken to the hospital for injuries, the release said. The Tacoma man, the Kent man, and the Kent man’s passenger – a 27-year-old woman from Kent – were all uninjured.
There were no drugs or alcohol involved, the release said, and the cause is listed as “improper lane use.”
All vehicles had “reportable damage,” the release said, but none were totaled.
The roadway was blocked for one hour and 54 minutes, the release said.
