State Route 702 to shut down in East Pierce County later this week

Drivers traveling on state Route 702 near Eatonville can expect delays later this week while crews replace a failing culvert.

According to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation, the following changes will go into effect on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13:

  • Friday: There will be one-way alternating traffic with flaggers near Kinsman Road from 8 a.m. to noon.
  • Saturday: State Route 702 will fully close at milepost 7.68 between Kinsman Road and Christensen Muck Road East from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While state Route 702 is closed on Saturday, drivers will “detour using state Route 7 and state Route 507.”

The News Tribune reached out to WSDOT to ask how much the culvert replacement will cost but did not receive a response.

In the release, WSDOT urged drivers to slow down, pay attention and stay calm.

“Expect delays, leave early or take alternate routes if possible,” the release said.
