Two hospitalized after collision near I-5 and SR-16

Update: Two people were transported to the hospital after the crash, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol.

A 23-year-old man from New Iberia, Louisiana struck the second car, which was being driven by a 33-year-old Lakewood woman, according to the release.

Both vehicles crossed all lanes, struck the left-side barrier and came to rest on the left shoulder, the release said.

The 23-year-old man was charged with driving under the influence and vehicular assault, the release said. The cause is listed as “under investigation.”

The roadway was blocked for two hours and 10 minutes, the release said.

Original post: A two-car collision on southbound Interstate 5 caused serious injuries Tuesday night, according to Washington State Patrol.

At 7:29 p.m., WSDOT Tacoma reported the collision on I-5 near State Route 16 on X.

The HOV lane and left lane are blocked, Trooper Kameron Watts shared on X. Due to the serious injuries of one of the involved parties, the lanes will remain closed for an extended amount of time, Watts said.
