Police activity snarls afternoon traffic on northbound Interstate 5
Update, 6:04 p.m.: The stolen vehicle’s driver, a woman in her 40s, was taken into custody without incident, TCSO Spokesperson Cameron Simper told The News Tribune.
The incident began at 5:02 p.m. on Reservation Road near the Old Pacific Highway in Thurston County, Simper said.
A TCSO deputy noticed the sedan’s covered license plates and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped off, reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour on I-5.
The sedan was stolen from Auburn, Simper said.
Original story: A police chase ended in a high risk stop that blocked multiple lanes and sparked delays along Interstate 5 on Wednesday, Trooper Kameron Watts shared on X.
Thurston County Sheriff’s Officers were chasing a stolen sedan on northbound I-5, the post said. Once they reached Tacoma, Washington State Patrol troopers were able to assist in a “high-risk” stop that ended on the interstate before South 84th Street.
Though all lanes were originally blocked, the left three lanes are now open, Watts said.
