Tacoma streets to close during World Cup parade. Here’s the detour
Several Tacoma streets will be closed on Friday for the Puyallup Tribe of Indian’s World Cup 2026 Kick Off Parade.
According to a news release from the city, the following streets will be closed from about 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.:
- Portland Avenue between East 40th Street and East 29th Street
- East 38th Street between East L Street and Portland Avenue
- East 30th Street between Portland Avenue and East 29th Street
“Times are subject to final confirmation,” the city wrote in a release.
The city’s recommended detour routes are broken down below:
- Northbound Traffic: Drivers headed east of Portland Avenue should drive on East 64th Street, then Waller Road, then Pioneer Way, the release said. Drivers headed west of Portland Avenue should head towards McKinley Avenue and then Wiley Avenue.
- Southbound Traffic: Drivers headed east of Portland Avenue should drive on Pioneer Way, then Waller Road then East 64th Street. Drivers headed west of Portland Avenue should head to Puyallup Avenue, then Pacific Avenue.
Drivers headed westbound across Portland Avenue should take Roosevelt Avenue, then East 44th Street, then Portland Avenue, the release said. Drivers headed eastbound across Portland Avenue should take East 44th Street and Roosevelt Avenue.
Residents should be prepared for long delays, the release said, and leave before 2:30 p.m. if they need to travel during the closure time.
