Fiery 2-car crash blocks southbound traffic on SR 7 in Pierce County

Update, 3:30 p.m.: The wreck has cleared and the roadway has reopened, WSDOT reports.

Previous post: A wreck on State Route 7 in Spanaway was blocking traffic Thursday afternoon.

The closure is at milepost 45.92, near 208th Street East. Southbound SR-7 was blocked, with traffic getting by in the center turn lane, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

It’s unclear when the roadway will re-open.

The two-car collision was reported just before 2 p.m., according to WSDOT.

One car landed upside down on top of the other car, and flames were seen, state trooper Kameron Watts said. One of the people involved in the collision was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

There were reports that the two cars were racing before the crash, Watts said.
