A motorcyclist was hurt Thursday after he laid down his bike on southbound Interstate 5 near Port of Tacoma Road.

The accident took place just before 10 a.m.

“There was some sort of debris in the roadway,” Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said. “Vehicles started slowing down for that debris and the motorcycle could not slow down in time.”

The motorcyclist left 100 feet of skid marks and tumbled another 30 feet, he said.

The man was taken to a hospital but was not seriously injured.

Three lanes on southbound I-5 in the area were blocked and caused traffic backups to 38th Street in Fife until 10:35 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

A six-car collision on northbound I-5 near L Street also caused backups past South 56th Street.
