Maintenance work planned for SR 509 bridge in Tacoma

Drivers should expect lane closures on the cable-stayed bridge on state Route 509 in downtown Tacoma overnight Friday.

Crews will be doing maintenance work on the bridge’s expansion joints, which means they will alternately close lanes in both directions.

One lane will remain open while work is being done, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The work is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.
