Southbound I-5 closures scheduled near DuPont for railroad work

Drivers headed south on Interstate 5 in the DuPont area can expect lane closures overnight this week as crews work on a rail bridge.

The closures, which will reduce the freeway near the Mounts Road interchange to one lane at times, will begin Monday (March 21) and be in effect overnight Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Lane restrictions will begin about 9 each night and end about 6 the following morning.

In addition, the on-ramp to southbound I-5 from Mounts Road will be closed overnight Wednesday and Thursday. Folks who usually access southbound I-5 there will have to travel north to Exit 119to get on the freeway.

The rail bridge work is part of the $89 million Point Defiance Bypass project, which is rerouting Amtrak Cascades passenger trains to in an inland rail line through DuPont, Lakewood and Tacoma.
