People interested in jobs driving buses for Pierce Transit can apply during a hiring fair Saturday.

The agency is seeking relief transit operators who cover for full-time operators who take time off because of illness or vacation.

Beginning pay for relief drivers is $16.58 an hour during training, with the potential to rise to $21.46 an hour thereafter. They also qualify for benefits like health insurance.

Relief drivers are guaranteed 25 hours per week but can get up to 40 hours per week, depending on demand. They also can apply for promotion to full-time work as positions become available.

The hiring fair will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Pierce Transit’s Building 5 Training Center, 3720 96th St. SW in Lakewood.

Applicants must be at least 21 at time of hire.
