With baby in backseat, dad armed with gun leads police on chase, California cops say

A San Bernardino man fled from police in a car chase with his infant son in the back seat, authorities say.

Police say Trinidad Macias, 37, was one of three suspects in a shooting that left two men injured on Dec. 21. Officers already arrested brothers Michael Santoscoy, 28, and Christopher Santoscoy, 23, according to a post by the Fontana Police Department.

Police say they found Macias getting into his white Nissan Altima on Dec. 22 and tried to pull him over, but he refused to stop. Macias is accused of getting into a car chase with police that lasted for over an hour and spanned the 210, 215, 25, and 10 freeways.

His son, who relatives said was three weeks old, was in the back seat. Officers said that at one point, Macias threw a gun out of his car.

“Macias was on the phone with his family and (the California Highway Patrol) during the pursuit. He claimed to have several handguns, a rifle, and his infant child in the vehicle with him,” Fontana officer Daniel Romero told The San Bernardino Sun.

The baby is safe and has been returned to his mother, Romero told The Sun.

Macias was arrested in Colton and booked at West Valley Detention Center on an attempted murder charge, “suspicion of child endangerment, and evading police” jail records show, The Sun reported.
