Wake from Trump boat parade sinks family’s boat on Oregon river, video shows

A parade of boats flying “Trump” flags created large waves as they traveled through the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, and those waves sunk a family’s boat, a video posted on Twitter shows.

The video shows more than 20 boats and other watercraft with Trump flags driving through the river in downtown Portland on Aug. 16, The Oregonian reported. People often call these large groups of boaters “Trump boat parades.”

Later in the video, the family is heard screaming as water overtakes their boat. As the boat falls apart in the water, other boaters begin surrounding the family, attempting to help them.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office river patrol deputies responded to help the family, but they were rescued by other boaters before deputies arrived, according to KGW.

Trump boat parades have become popular this summer. Thousands of boaters in Clearwater, Florida, paraded on Aug. 15 in an effort to set a record for the largest Trump boat parade, WTVT reported.

An organizer for the event said they needed more than 1,180 boats, according to WTVT. Over 1,600 people paid and registered to participate in the parade, the news station reported.
