Real estate agent fired after removing Black Lives Matter signs from Colorado yards
A Denver resident was walking his dog the morning of Aug. 1 when he noticed a woman taking down “Black Lives Matter” signs in the neighborhood where he lived, KMGH reported.
The witness posted the photos to the NextDoor app and the woman was identified as Denice Reich, a real estate agent who worked for RE/MAX in Denver for nearly 50 years, according to The Associated Press.
Two days after she was seen removing the signs, the real estate agency fired Reich, KUSA reported.
“We’re not a company that can condone trespassing on people’s private property and theft,” said Chad Ochsner, RE/MAX Alliance owner, according to KUSA. “For us, it doesn’t matter what the politics is.”
Reich lives in the affluent Hilltop neighborhood where she was seen removing the signs, KMGH reported. Reich told the news station she took two Black Lives Matter signs but returned them three hours later and apologized to the owners.
Reich said she felt they were as offensive as “KKK” signs and called the BLM movement a “terrorist organization,” according to KMGH.
“It’s sad,” Ochsner said, according to KUSA. “We had a long-standing relationship with her as a prominent Realtor.”
Reich’s bio was removed from the real estate agency’s website, KUSA reported.
