Man shot to death in argument over Alabama football team’s loss to Texas A&M, cops say
A man was shot in an argument over the University of Alabama football team’s game against Texas A&M Saturday night, according to police.
Toward the end of the game at a gathering in Bessemer, two men started fighting over which college football team was better, said Bessemer Police Lt. Christian Clemons, the Associated Press reported. Bessemer is about 15 miles southwest of Birmingham.
Gunshots were fired outside after the homeowner told the men to leave, according to WBRC News.
The victim, 27-year-old Kealand Amad Pickens, was shot several times in the torso and taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m., WVTM reported.
The shooter was already gone by the time police officers arrived. But, Clemons said, they know who he is, AL.com reported.
“It’s another case of resorting to violence to handle differences,” he told the outlet.
Texas A&M ended the Crimson Tide’s 19-game winning streak 41-38 on the last field goal Saturday night.
