Rand Paul celebrates Spotify removing Neil Young after Joe Rogan ultimatum. ‘Seeya’

Hours after Spotify began removing Neil Young songs from its streaming service, Sen. Rand Paul took to social media to celebrate.

Young’s removal from Spotify came two days after he demanded the popular service choose between himself or Joe Rogan, a controversial podcaster who has spread misinformation regarding COVID-19 and vaccines.

In a since-deleted letter obtained by Rolling Stone, Young told his management team and record label he wanted his music off the platform because Spotify “is spreading fake information about vaccines.”

On Wednesday, Jan. 26, his songs began disappearing from the service. Spotify said in a statement the decision was Young’s, adding it hopes “to welcome him back soon,” according to The New York Times.

One person who took pleasure in the move was Paul, the Republican senator from Kentucky. Paul parodied one of Young’s most acclaimed songs, “My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue),” in celebrating on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, hundreds of medical experts signed a letter asking Spotify to address misinformation on Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, McClatchy News reported. Rogan’s show is the top podcast streamed on Spotify.

Young cited that letter in a post on his website after his songs were removed on Spotify. In thanking his record label for standing by him, he said Spotify accounted for 60% of the streaming of his music.

“Spotify has become the home of life-threatening COVID misinformation,” Young said. “Lies being sold for money.”

He encouraged other artists and record companies to move off the platform. Young’s music remains on Amazon and Apple’s streaming services.
