Want to make your mark on the Space Needle? There’s a contest to decorate Seattle icon
Washington’s iconic Space Needle is turning 60 this year, and the city of Seattle thinks it could use a fresh coat of paint.
The Space Needle is hosting a contest to celebrate the milestone, in which five grand prize winners will be chosen to help paint the landmark’s roof Galaxy Gold, the tower’s original color.
To enter, participants must share their favorite memory of the Space Needle in 200 words or less through an online form that can be found on the Space Needle’s website. Entrants can also include photos of their experiences in their submissions.
Submissions will be open until April 17, and the five winners will be chosen on April 21, according to the Space Needle’s website.
Fifty-five additional winners will also be chosen to receive other prizes, the website said.
The Space Needle was built for the 1962 World’s Fair, according to Seattle Refined. The exposition drew nearly 10 million visitors and included attractions like a NASA-themed science exhibit, according to the Seattle Municipal Archives.
