41-year-old surfer dies after friends report her missing in Hawaii, officials say

A 41-year-old surfer died after being pulled from the water off Hawaii’s shore, officials told news outlets.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified by officials, was surfing Tuesday, April 12, in an area known as the “Seconds,” KITV4 reported. The area has no lifeguard towers and a rocky shoreline, according to the news outlet.

The surfer vanished and was reported missing by her friends, KHON2 reported. Honolulu Ocean Safety responded to the call shortly before 10 a.m.

Rescuers on jet skis rushed to help the woman, according to Hawaii News Now. They found the woman in the water and pulled her onto a boat ramp.

After giving the woman CPR, she was pronounced dead at the scene, KHON2 reported.

The woman died in an apparent drowning, according to Hawaii News Now.
