81-year-old woman is carjacked as she passes out meals to the homeless, CA police say
An 81-year-old California woman was the victim of a carjacking while she was passing out meals to homeless people in the area, the Redlands Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23, when police received a call that a vehicle had been stolen from a supermarket parking lot.
As the woman was handing out the meals, the carjacking suspect forcefully took her keys and fled in the vehicle as she hung onto the driver’s door, knocking her to the ground as he drove away, police said.
The woman was unharmed, according to police.
Police released surveillance footage of the incident on their YouTube channel, the post said. The vehicle, a 2015 Kia Sportage, was last seen westbound on Interstate 10 in Redlands and was registered as “stolen” in law enforcement databases, police said.
Anyone who might have information about the incident is asked to call or email Redlands Police Department Detective Reuben Cordoba at (909) 798-7623 or rcordoba@redlandspolice.org.
