A 21-year-old man drowned in a Pennsylvania lake after spending the day with friends, according to local reports.

Mount Pleasant Fire Company’s Water Rescue and Recovery Team was called to Blue Marsh Lake in Penn Township on Sunday, June 5 after someone reported the man was drowning, according to a news release shared on Facebook.

“A valiant effort to save the young man was made by our divers and personnel, however, it was not in time,” officials said.

The swimmer’s body was later found by divers, according to the news release.

He was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. local time, about two hours after the drowning was reported, according to the Reading Eagle. The man was later identified as Albert L. Castro Beato.

“Basically, what we think is he swam out too far and couldn’t get back in, got tired and went down,” Park Ranger Nathan Freiwald told WFMZ.

An autopsy to rule an official cause of death is scheduled for Thursday, June 9, the Reading Eagle reported.

Blue Marsh Lake is about 65 miles northwest of downtown Philadelphia.
