15-year-old on joyride in grandfather’s car crashes into two homes, NC cops say

A 15-year-old was taking a joyride when he lost control and slammed into two North Carolina homes, police told news outlets.

The crash scattered debris across one driveway while the neighboring house was left with a mangled garage door on Monday, June 20, according to video from ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

The damage was spotted after Fayetteville police said the 15-year-old boy got into his grandfather’s car without permission. He was driving with two teen passengers when he sped around a corner and lost control, ABC11 and WRAL reported.

Police said the teenage driver went across a yard and crashed into a parked car, pushing it into a garage. He also ran into another house and hit at least one more car, officials told news outlets.

No one was seriously hurt in the crash, which was reported at about 10 a.m. on Candlewood Drive. As of June 20, there had been no charges filed in the case, which was bound for a juvenile detective, according to WNCN.

The teen had been driving without a license, the TV station reported. In North Carolina, teens ages 15 to 17 are required to go through a strict process called graduated licensing before getting “full driving privileges,” according to the state’s Department of Transportation.

The Fayetteville Police Department didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on June 21.
